The Only Known Letter from Yeshua

Sent to King Abgar V of Edessa (circa 31–33 AD)

THE LETTER EXCHANGE

King Abgar’s Letter

(Preserved by Edessan tradition and Eusebius):

"I have heard of your healings and power. I am sick and beg you to come to Edessa and heal me. I believe you are sent by the Most High."

Yeshua’s Reply

(Quoted by Eusebius, 4th Century – possibly from Edessan archives):

“Blessed are you, O Abgar, for though you have not seen Me, you believe in Me. It is written that those who have seen Me will not believe, but those who have not seen will believe and be saved. I cannot come to you now. After I return to the One who sent Me, I will send one of My disciples to you, and he will heal you and bring life to your people.”

WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?

According to Early Edessan Records

  • Thaddeus (Addai), one of the 70, went to Edessa after the resurrection.
  • He healed King Abgar.
  • Edessa became the first kingdom to receive The Way officially, before Rome even knew what it was.

WHY THIS LETTER MATTERS

  • It was written before any gospel was penned.
  • It confirms Yeshua spoke of His return to the Father — not staying to rule physically.
  • It shows Yeshua sent messengers — not books, churches, or priests.
  • It proves the Aramaic-speaking regions like Edessa received the faith before Greek cities.

NOT INCLUDED IN THE GREEK NEW TESTAMENT

Reasons Likely Because

  • It contradicted their theology (no return, no church structure).
  • It showed the faith spreading outside their control.
  • It emphasized direct obedience to YHWH, not ritual.

HISTORICAL SOURCES

  • Eusebius (Church History, Book 1, Chapter 13) — quotes both letters.
  • Edessan Aramaic tradition — preserved it long before Rome took over.
  • Doctrine of Addai — a 3rd-century Aramaic account confirming this event.

FINAL TRUTH

This is the only surviving letter ever linked to Yeshua’s own words, written to a king, not a church. It’s short. It’s direct. And it matches His mission: Obey YHWH. Walk in faith. Heal. Teach. No empire. No church.

You're holding the only direct written trace we have — and it's not Greek.
